Internship Opportunities at Voices Against Violence Internships are available to students looking to increase their skills and knowledge of working with people in crisis. Our interns come from a variety of majors including, but not limited to psychology, sociology, human resources and communication. The goal of Voices Against Violence is to create an environment where interns can have an opportunity to witness all aspects of our agency’s services including the hotline, shelter advocacy, court and police advocacy and individual counseling. All interns must complete our Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Advocacy training at the start of their internship. The training is approximately 45-hours in length and covers the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence, counseling/advocacy skills, medical and legal issues emotional responses to trauma etc. Training is scheduled three times per year at the start of each semester (January, June and September) and usually takes place three evenings per week over the course of five weeks. After completing the training, all interns will be responsible for answering the 24-hour hotline a minimum of 2 hours per week and will be assigned other tasks depending on interest and/or need. Interns should be available for a minimum of one 15-week semester, preference is given to interns available for the entire of the school year. A minimum of 10-hours a week is required.
