SMOC BHS's D.U.I. (Driving Under the Influence) Program provides services to clients who have been found guilty by the court of driving while intoxicated.
1st Offender Program: 16-week program, which provides education about the dangers of driving under the influence. Its goal is to prevent clients from repeating this behavior in the future. The methods used are lectures, videos, class discussion and individual presentations. All clients must attend two AA meetings and a Victims’ Forum to learn about the consequences of driving while intoxicated.
2nd Offender Program is clinically focused and provides treatment to court referred individuals who have had a second arrest for driving under the influence within the past 9 years. Through group and individual therapy, clients address their issues with alcohol and other drugs. They are expected to attend AA meetings twice a week. This program lasts for the duration of their probation, which is usually two years.
