The Housing Assistance Program (HAP)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION/SERVICES:
HAP provides housing search services to families who are at risk of homelessness. Housing Specialist work closely with families referred from the Department of Transitional Assistance to secure and/or maintain permanent affordable housing. The program provides prevention and stabilization services to clients who are facing eviction or are about to be homeless or if that is not possible, will assist the family in a search for alternative permanent housing. The HAP program will also provide follow-up assistance to ensure that the family maintains permanent housing. In addition to working with at-risk clients, the HAP workers also assist clients who are residing in our family shelters, including Pathways, Medway and Sage House.
 
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

HAP is an Emergency Assistance program. Families that are interested in receiving assistance from the HAP program should go their local Department of Transitional Assistance office to be screened for eligibility for Emergency Assistance Services (EA eligible).

Eligible families include:

  1. Families of two parents with children under age of 18 or children over 18 but full time student.
  2. Single adults with children.
  3. Income Eligibility: Families need to also meet an income eligibility guideline in order to Receive HAP services. The income guideline is at or below one hundred percent of Federal Poverty Level.

Families in need of HAP services can contact the local Department of Transitional Assistance office (Welfare) in the area where they live. In Framingham they can call DTA at (508) 661-6600 or call SMOC (508) 872-0765 and inquiry about the HAP program.

Donations are only accepted if approved by the Program Director and an arranged delivery time and date is scheduled.
 
ANNUAL STATISTICS
The HAP program provided housing search services to 395 families during the last year. Forty-one percent of these families were assisted in obtaining permanent housing or had their tenancies maintained through the direct intervention of the Housing Advocates.
